Thanks Daniel for this post! This is a great overview of top level domain names (TLDs).

At first I thought all these new domain extensions were the equivalent of Hallmark creating new holidays (like secretaries day) just to sell greeting cards. But now I can see how it gives businesses more opportunity to get the name they want in addition to defining the industry at a domain level.
The only thing I don’t like is that when you tell someone your website “Hey, go to zach.photography”, it doesn’t sound like a website and may cause confusion. Even when you see it in print I think it requires the http for clarity’s sake. But I’m sure we will get over that especially as more people start using it.

My friend Aaron Hockley recently launched a site at productive.photography which sounds cool. Maybe he can comment on his rationale for choosing the new domain.
